Wind Serenades

Wind Chamber Music Courses across the United Kingdom, directed by Laurence Perkins

'Island Inspirations'

This course (planned for Spring 2011) is not yet confirmed, but the plans are for a wonderful 4-day escape to the idyllic Scottish island of Easdale, where music-making is as natural as the environment around you. The island is very near the attractive west-coast town of Oban, which is easily accessed by train or car, but Easdale island itself is accessed by a foot-passenger-only ferry - a gateway to a haven of peace and tranquillity!

There will be up to three tutored rehearsal sessions per day, with opportunities to explore this beautiful Scottish island, and a concert performance for the local community at the end of the course. Self-catering accommodation will be provided as part of your course fee, and lunch / evening meals can be purchased at the local pub.

For a glimpse of this beautiful setting, take a look at Easdale Island pictures on Google:click here

This will be a course for advanced players, similar to the ’Windsurfers’ courses (click here for playing standard details) - music planned for this proposed course depends on the number of applicants and the instrumental combination available, but we hope to attract an ensemble of ten players (2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns) to perform dectets, quintets and other combinations, possibly to include:

Dvorak: Czech Suite (arranged by Graham Sheen)
Reicha Quintet in E flat
Milhaud 'La Cheminee du Roi Rene'

Dates and all details to be confirmed - we are looking at the possibility of four nights in May 2011, arriving Wednesday afternoon/evening, departing Sunday morning. Cost also to be confirmed, but will be in the region of £400 for the course and self-catering accommodation.

Bookings are not being taken at the moment for this course - if you are interested and would like to register your interest, please send an email to Laurence Perkins at details@windserenades.co.uk. Please indicate the instrument(s) you play, including any alternatives (e.g. piccolo, cor anglais, bass clarinet, etc.) and brief details of your playing level and experience. This will not involve you in any commitment at this stage, but it helps to know how many players are genuinely interested in a course in this location at this time of year. If a sufficient number of players have expressed interest by Summer 2010, the course will go ahead, and firm details will be made in Autumn 2010, thus giving players plenty of time to arrange work, holiday and personal/family schedules.
