YOUR Wind Serenades

Wind chamber music tutoring by Laurence Perkins

A new approach to tutored chamber music sessions
for an evening, one-day or weekend event where YOU are!

YOUR Wind Serenades
Lives become busier as each year passes, often with more demands on available free time and less money available to indulge in those activities that you really enjoy doing – such as playing in a chamber ensemble!

For those wind players who enjoy a chance to play in a wind quintet, a Mozart Octet-Serenade or one of the glorious Richard Strauss works for 13 players – to name but a few gems for wind ensemble – YOUR Wind Serenades is a new approach to exploring these great works with world-class tutoring, in a highly affordable and convenient way!

YOUR Wind Serenades is a simple, straightforward way to create a special event near to you and your friends. It can be with your regular chamber group, or an ensemble you create specifically for this event, working with one of Britain’s leading wind chamber ensemble tutors.

The advantages of setting up a YOUR Wind Serenades event:

  • You have control over who plays in the ensemble
  • The event can be in a venue convenient to you and your friends
  • The date(s), times and selected repertoire are all your choice
  • What you pay for tutoring is considerably less than many courses
  • If the venue is near to you, you save on travel and accommodation costs

How much would this cost?

YOUR Wind Serenades is highly cost-effective when costs are shared between all the players. Because administration costs and overheads are greatly reduced, the amount each player pays is significantly less than many conventional courses – and, of course, the larger your ensemble, the lower the cost per player! See details illustrations at the end of this page for more details.

Booking arrangements

Setting up an event is really easy – here’s what you do:

  • Identify possible dates with your players.
  • Contact Laurence Perkins via the on-line ‘contact’ form for availability and a quote.
  • Once a date is specified, you then have 14 days to confirm with your players.
  • Confirm the date with Laurence Perkins – a 50% deposit* will then be payable within 14 days.
  • The balance will be payable on the day of the course.

* See note at the end of this page.

Course venue and repertoire

The venue for YOUR Wind Serenades can be anywhere convenient and suitable – it can even be in someone’s living room! If you are preparing for a concert performance, it can also be in more than one venue, perhaps moving to the concert venue later on. Repertoire is entirely your choice, but do also feel free to ask Laurence Perkins who will be only too willing to offer any advice that is needed. Laurence also has a very extensive library of wind chamber music, and if the piece you wish to play is in LP’s library, it will be loaned to you free of charge for up to three months (subject to availability).

The cost of tutoring for a YOUR Wind Serenades event:

Costs are kept to a minimum – travel expenses are calculated from Manchester (Laurence’s home base), and the £50 accommodation cost (for events more than 100 miles from Manchester) is based on an average B&B or small hotel rate. Where possible, private hospitality is always very welcome, and avoids the additional accommodation cost.

Weekday evening event (up to a maximum of 3 hours tutoring):
£150, plus travel at 30p per mile return from Manchester
(The maximum distance from Manchester for an evening session is 100 miles)

Weekday or weekend one-day event (up to a maximum of 6 hours tutoring):
£250, plus travel at 30p per mile return from Manchester
(Any venue more than 100 miles from Manchester will require accommodation – if private hospitality is not available, an additional £50 will be added)

Weekday or weekend two-day event (up to a maximum of 6 hours tutoring per day):
£500, plus travel at 30p per mile return from Manchester
(This includes one night’s accommodation costs – deduct £50 if private hospitality can be offered. Any venue more than 100 miles from Manchester will require an additional night’s accommodation – if private hospitality is not available, the total cost will be £550 plus travel to cover additional cost of B&B)

How much is this per person on a cost-sharing basis within your group?

Clearly, this depends on the size of your group – the larger the ensemble with more people to share the overall cost, the less each person pays for the event.
